It had been nine years since the once great United States of America had been plunged into war. Only this was a civil war, America had not seen such a war for the past two hundred years. Two sides fighting against each other in the same country. The fascists or the American Civil Union (ACU) and the communists or the United Socialist States of America (USSA).
You had been fighting for the ACU since you were old enough to shoot a gun. Now you were on guard duty after sustaining injury to your leg.
The person you were sent to guard was a suspect. She was charged with assassinating key ACU officials. Her name: Emily Jones.
"This is her Privet __________," your commanding officer pointed to a cell. "Make sure she is fed and behaves until her trial.
"Um, when is her trial sir?" you asked him.
"Who knows," he shrugged, "the way things are going with the USSA it might be years from now. Just make sure she stays in line __________." With that you were left alone with the prisoner.
After about an hour a small voice came from behind the barred door, "Yo, dude. Got anything to eat?"
You shook your head.
"Oh, too bad," the girl grumbled. After a while she spoke again, "So…what's your name?"
"____________ _____________," you said speaking in your best professional tone.
You could practically hear her smile, "Cool, dude. I'm Emily."
"I know," you said shifting your weight.
Emily laughed, "Yeah, that's right. You're my guard, guess you gotta know who you're guarding huh?" She continued to babble about the randomest things. From video games to scary movies. Every so often you'd put in your two cents and she'd laugh and talk more.
As time went on you found yourself getting closer to your prisoner. She was nice and bubbly.
"So what is a nice girl like you doing with the USSA?" you finally asked her. The one thing that had been bothering you about her.
She scowled, "I'm not. I was forced to."
"They have my sister, and if I don't do what they want they'll kill her," she was near tears. "I can't lose her, I already drove away my older sister, I refuse to lose my other sister too."
You held your breath, "Don't worry, justice will prevail and when it does you'll get you sister back."
"I hope so."
Taking a deep breath you said, "Emily, I promise you that I will get you out. And when I do we'll run away to a place where we can be free."
"_-_________, what do you mean?"
"Emily…I love you," you finally said.
She smiled at you, her blue eyes shining, "I love you too ___________."
