Light shone down on you warming your skin. It was you and your husband’s first anniversary and you had surprised him with a trip to Kansas. Their state flower was the sunflower so you thought he would love it.
Right now the two of you were lying in a field of sunflowers enjoying the warm summer air.
“Podsolnechnik,” Ivan cooed into your ear. You shifted yourself so that you were facing Ivan’s chest.
You smiled at him brushing some of his hair out of his face. “Hmm?”
“It’s so warm,” he whispered pulling you closer. “Thank you.”
“It was nothing,” you said kissing him on the cheek. “I knew you would love The Sunflower State.”
He nodded and kissed your forehead. “Coming to America seemed like the most unromantic vacation at first.”
You agreed. “Ivan, I want this vacation to last forever.” You settled your head on his chest, “It’s perfect, just you and me…and a whole field of sunflowers to ourselves.”
“Da,” he said. He took your left hand in his examining your wedding bands. “The best day of my life happened a year ago.”
“Mine too.” You giggled, “And my mother thought you were a sycopath.”
